About CANZA and the CANZA Marketplace
The Canadian Alliance for Net-Zero Agri-food (CANZA) was co-founded in 2023 by a coalition of agri-food companies committed to strengthening a more resilient Canadian agri-food system. We work with farmers and partners across the value chain to coordinate investment that de-risks and rewards the adoption of regenerative farming practices. CANZA is a Solution Space of Generate Canada, an incorporated charity operating since 1996. Learn more here.
Drawing on international frameworks and the work of CSA Group, CANZA defines regenerative farming practices as a set of practices that:
- Minimize soil disturbance
- Maintain continuous soil cover
- Keep living roots in the ground
- Enhance biodiversity
- Integrate livestock grazing
These approaches may also include water conservation, efficient input use, and landscape restoration or enhancement. There is no single recipe for regenerative farming. Rather, it is a menu of practices that farmers can adopt to improve soil health, biodiversity, climate, and water outcomes in measurable and verifiable ways. Climate-smart agriculture extends this even further, capturing integrated strategies to address both food security and climate change
In this first phase, the CANZA Marketplace is a space for farmers, advisors, and collaborators across the agri-food value chain to learn about existing incentive programs that support regenerative farming practices. While having an account is not required to search for funding opportunities or explore resources, creating an account allows you to automatically see the funding incentive programs that best align with your farming operation and sustainability goals, compare different funding programs, and save the programs you are most interested in. Having an account will allow you to access more information on the listed programs including stacking opportunities to potentially leverage funding from more than one program.
An account is required for farmers who are participating in the Million Acre Challenge program, and the Project Advisors supporting the Million Acre Challenge participants.
Learn more about the CANZA Marketplace here.
The Million Acre Challenge Program supports farmers across Canada who are adopting management practices that benefit both the environment and their bottom line. It combines cost-sharing and agronomic support to help farms implement practical, proven approaches that build soil health, protect water, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions while opening doors to emerging environmental outcome markets. Finding Funding Opportunities
In this first phase of CANZA’s Marketplace, CANZA is working collaboratively with a diversity of program administrators to offer a searchable directory of programs that support sustainable and regenerative farming practices. This directory provides third-party, publicly available information that is intended for general guidance only. Learn more about funding opportunities here.
Stacking describes when a farm business accesses incentives from more than one funding program and/or delivery organization to support a single project.
CANZA’s searchable directory provides third-party, publicly available information that is intended for general guidance only. Program details, including eligibility, deadlines, and application requirements, may change at any time. Always visit the program’s official website to confirm the most accurate and up-to-date information. In most cases, contact information for program administrators and web links have been provided for each program.
No. With the exception of the Million Acre Challenge Programe, all other listed programs are administered by other groups such as Conservation Authorities, government, and NGOs. Always visit the program’s official website to confirm the most accurate and up-to-date information.
